Well, engraving really has reached the mass market this year! You may order an Apple iPod from the Apple Store with a custom, laser engraved message. If, like me, you got your iPod before this laser engraving service was available, you could take your iPod to a jewelers. They should be able to use jewelry engraving equipment to custom engrave whatever design you want on the back.
Apparently a Norwegian guy proposed to his girl friend by giving her an iPod Nano with "will you marry me" engraved on it !
